Huddersfield’s oldest shopping centre with its beautiful ornate ironwork and decorative floor tiles, is now known as the makers’ arcade and proudly promotes the three floors of independent traders that now call it home.

Opening in 1970, Queensgate Market has been cherished by the community in Huddersfield for decades and is an iconic feature of the Kirklees landscape. The asymmetrical concrete roof structures and the innovative ceramic panels adorning the façade of the building makes Queensgate Market truly architecturally unique. The ten ceramic panels, titled ‘Articulation in Movement’, were created by German sculptor Fritz Steller and are some of the finest examples of mid-century public art. The Grade II listed building is currently being restored and transformed into a multi-purpose venue and vibrant food hall, allowing the Huddersfield community to utilise and enjoy this iconic building for many more years to come.

With over 5000 acres of moorland steeped in history to explore, ramblers can choose from a variety of trails that wind through stunning valleys and impressive peaks and crags. On a walking trail from Marsden, you will find the historic Eastergate Bridge which was once used by wool traders and their packhorse.
